Why does my gas water heater pilot light keep going out?
The most common cause is a worn thermocouple or thermopile that no longer proves the pilot flame to the gas valve, so the valve shuts off the gas. Other causes include a dirty pilot orifice, a weak pilot flame, a faulty gas control valve, or a draft blowing the pilot out. Because a pilot that won't stay lit can indicate a gas safety issue, a Green Line technician tests the thermocouple, cleans the assembly, checks the flame and inspects venting to find and fix the actual cause.
