Why does my electric water heater keep tripping the breaker?
A tripping breaker usually points to a shorted heating element, often the lower element, which can crack and allow water to contact the live wiring. Other causes include a faulty thermostat welded closed, damaged wiring, or a failing reset (high-limit) switch. Because this is an electrical safety condition, a Green Line technician tests each element and thermostat with a meter to find the shorted component and replace it, rather than repeatedly resetting the breaker.
